Featured Ingredient: ROSE
Rose. One of our favorite scents. It belongs to the Rosacea botanical family.
There are over 250 species of rose but at Rozetree Botanicals we use Rosa damascena in our Frankincense and Rose infusion. It is one of three species that are the most commonly used to produce essential oil. However, because of its low oil content, the essential oil of Rosa damascena is one of the most expensive in the world.
Roses have been cultivated in different cultures throughout history. Fossils of rose have been found that are millions of years old. The Greeks called roses the "Queen of Flowers". You may have heard the term "War of the Roses" which refers to a conflict in fifteenth century England when York, symbolized by the white rose was fighting Lancaster, symbolized by the red rose. Roses were so highly coveted in the seventeenth century that they were used as legal tender.
Throughout history roses were used for medical purposes as well as for perfume. Rose has been used to treat digestive problems, inflammation, children's cough, wound healing, migraines and skin health. The essential oil has been used to treat emotional issues such as depression, stress and grief.
Rosa damascena has been studied extensively. It has been shown to possess strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. It also is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This is good news for skin care because inflammation and oxidation are two of the main causes of skin aging which is why we include it in our Frank+Roze Oil Facial Cleansing Oil.
